Learn Castle 34 lessons
Meet every piece, then castling, en passant, checkmate patterns, forks, pins and more. Lessons are short, built on small boards, and each one ends with a reward for Toto.
Toto the robot teaches your child chess with short lessons, puzzles and games, and explains why a move is good or risky, not just what to play. No ads. No sign-up. Nothing leaves your device.

One app, every screen

What’s inside
Everything lives on Toto’s Chess Island. Each landmark is a different way to learn, and your child’s progress grows as they go.

Meet every piece, then castling, en passant, checkmate patterns, forks, pins and more. Lessons are short, built on small boards, and each one ends with a reward for Toto.

Find the winning move. Puzzles come in themes, there’s a puzzle of the day, and a “practise again” shelf collects the ones that didn’t go perfectly.

The rulebook for small hands: how every piece moves, plus the special rules, each with a “Try me!” so children learn by doing, not by reading.

Play a friend on the same screen, or play a friendly animal opponent that fits your child’s age. A half-played game is saved, and after the game Toto looks back at the key moments.

Stars, levels, a daily mission of three medals and a streak flame that grows hotter. Trophies and stickers celebrate effort and good chess habits, not just winning.

Pick a buddy avatar and a board look, and switch between brothers and sisters. Each child has their own profile and progress on the same device.
Meet Toto
Most chess apps show a score or a “best move”. Toto talks to your child in short, kind sentences about what’s actually happening on the board, in words that fit their age, and reads them aloud.

Opponents
Toto is always the coach. The animals are the opponents: they don’t talk, they just play, and they’re matched to your child’s age.
Slow and gentle. Makes friendly mistakes, and sometimes leaves a piece out for the child to spot.
Clever and quick. Thinks a few moves ahead and sets the occasional trap, so children learn to look before they move.
Strong and brave. Hard to beat, and a real test for a child who loves chess.
When a game is tough, Toto adds more help and encouragement. A grown-up can move a child to a different friend in the Grown-ups zone.
Made for their age
At set-up you choose an age group. It changes how Toto speaks, how squares are shown and who the opponent is. A grown-up can change it later.
Short words. Toto points to the squares for you, and reads everything aloud.
Toto teaches the letters and numbers of the squares, and explains with a little more detail.
Real chess words and square names, for children who are ready for them.

For grown-ups
A children’s app should be easy to trust. Here’s what Toto Chess gives you, and what it deliberately leaves out.
A weekly summary and the chess habits your child is building, plus what’s worth practising again.
Set a daily limit so Toto can say goodnight, and a gentle reminder to come back and play.
Settings, time limits and erasing data sit behind a 4-digit PIN that only you know.
Turn sounds and music on or off, choose how Toto speaks, or switch to Quiet Toto for a calmer game.
Add each child on the same device. Everyone keeps their own avatar, level and progress.
Copy a summary or wipe a child’s progress whenever you like. It’s all on your device.
Questions
Toto Chess is made for children from about 4 to 10 and up. There are three age groups: Little (4–6), Explorer (7–9) and Champion (10 and up). They change how Toto speaks, how the squares are shown and which animal friend your child plays.
No. The first lesson is “Meet the Pawn”. Lessons go step by step from the pieces, to the rules, to checkmate and simple tactics. You don’t need to know chess to help, because Toto explains everything.
There are no accounts, no ads, no chat and no analytics. A child’s name, progress and games are stored on your device (in the browser, on the web version), and they aren’t sent to us. The privacy page explains this in plain words.
Yes. In the Grown-ups zone you can set a daily play-time limit and a reminder time. Set a PIN too, so your child can’t change them.
It’s the same app, running in your browser, so you can try it with nothing to install. On the web, progress is saved in that browser on that device. If you clear the browser’s site data, or use a private window, the progress goes with it. The Android and iOS apps keep progress on the phone or tablet.
Android phones and tablets, iPhones and iPads, and any modern web browser on a computer, tablet or phone. The web version works best in a recent version of Chrome, Safari, Edge or Firefox.
Yes. Add each child in the Grown-ups zone. Each child has their own avatar, level, trophies and progress.
The Android and iOS apps are built to be played offline. The web version needs a connection while you play, because it loads Toto’s voice and pictures as it goes.
Each animal plays at its own level: the Turtle is gentle and makes friendly mistakes (it even leaves a piece out now and then for little ones to spot), the Fox is tricky and the Lion is strong. If a child is finding it hard, Toto doesn’t make the animal weaker. He gives more hints and encouragement instead, because learning to lose well is part of learning chess.
The web version is free to try. We’ll share app store details here when the apps launch.
It takes about a minute to set up. Sit with them for the first game, and Toto will take it from there.
